Having recently returned from a pilgrimage to Israel, I’m interested in the fact that many of the Jewish festivals are about remembering. These celebrations have been handed down from generation to generation with the express purpose of ensuring that the people do not forget their deliverance.
According to thefreedictionary.com, encouragement is ‘the expression of approval and support’. Clearly, part of the root of the word is ‘courage’, so it seems likely that encouragement entails giving courage to another. I don’t think anyone can live and develop normally without encouragement.
I’m not much of a gardener, but I do know that if we never cut back the shrubs and trees and plants, they grow wild and all over the place. The apple tree in my front garden has suffered in that respect on a few occasions.
