Whatever You Want to Achieve, Keep Searching.

I’ve met a lot of young people recently who have no idea what they want to do with their lives. They definitely want a job because they want to be independent and have money to spend, but mostly, they have lost hope because they get rejected too many times, and they have virtually given up on the idea of getting work. With the current unemployment rate among young people, it is hardly surprising. Most of them would settle for almost anything but ultimately they want their working lives to be fulfilled.

If I’m researching something for my work, or for my latest novel, then I need to keep searching until I find exactly what I’m looking for, and it is just the same for anything in life that we want. It is exactly the same when it comes to spiritual things. As a Christian, I like to study the bible by subjects rather than just reading chronologically. That way I find it interesting searching for links and exciting in that moment when things all come together and I know that I have found what I set out for.

Steve Jobs once said,

If you have not found what you were looking for, keep searching. Do not stop. As it relates to the essence of things, you will not miss the moment when you really find it.

Searching is an activity; we shouldn’t sit back and expect life to come to us, we should be actively searching. We should never stop searching until we find it, although it seems to me that throughout life, searching is a bit like climbing hills; as soon as you think you are nearing the top, you realise that there is more ahead. If you haven’t got there, keep going.

Until we actually attain what we are searching for we should never give up. It doesn’t matter if you have applied for hundreds of jobs, you need to keep going and maybe the next one will be yours … but you need to keep searching. If you want your book published and keep getting rejected, ask yourself if you would be better placed self-publishing it; it’s good fun and as long as being a best seller and making your fortune are not two things that you are searching for, then there is a good chance that you will achieve your aims. In the words of the Reverend Mother in the sound of Music.

Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow till you find your dream.

If not … still keep going. Take opportunities that are presented to you and one of them may turn out to be hiding a pot of gold.
